Fresh Aussie Asparagus

Putting the Aussie in asparagus

At ALDI, we pride ourselves on sourcing the tastiest Aussie produce. So when you get your hands on our fresh Aus-paragus, you know you’re enjoying the best our local growers have to offer.

Meet our local asparagus experts.

Grown across 1000 acres of rich Victorian soil, Motta Produce has been supplying ALDI with fresh Aussie asparagus since 2018. A third-generation farm, they pride themselves on having the best quality asparagus around – and we’d have to agree! That’s why we buy about 150 tonnes of local asparagus from Motta each growing season.

Juicy asparagus facts and tips

Can you eat asparagus raw?

Fun fact, asparagus can be eaten raw! Because of it’s tough texture, you’ll want to thinly slice your raw asparagus spears to ensure they’re easier to consume. Marinating your raw asparagus is also a good idea as the flavour its flavour is more subtle compared to cooked asparagus.

Can you freeze fresh asparagus?

Because asparagus only lasts 3-5 days in the fridge, freezing your spears is a good way to save them before they go off. To freeze your asparagus you’ll need to blanch them for 2-4 minutes, then convert them to a tray, freeze them for 2-4 hours, then store the frozen spears in a ziplock bag. Your frozen asparagus will last 8-12 months in the freezer – use these spears for recipes requiring steamed or sauteed asparagus.

When is asparagus in season in Australia?

Although asparagus is available year-round at ALDI, it’s peak season in Australia is August through to December.

How should I cook and prepare asparagus?
