Plum jam is a fantastically delicious way to preserve excess plums. To make your own home-made plum jam, follow these easy steps below:
1. Wash, de-seed and quarter your plums
2. Place the plums and half a cup of water to a saucepan
3. Bring the plums to a simmer and leave them to cook for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally
4. If you prefer your plum jam without chunks, blend the jam with a stick blender
5. Add your desired amount of granulated sugar (if you’re using 2kg of plums, it’s recommended to use 1kg of sugar) and one and a half tablespoons of lemon juice to the saucepan
6. Bring the jam to a boil for 5-15 minutes (depending on your yield). Stir frequently to avoid the jam catching or burning on the pan.
7. Let the plum jam cool for 10 minutes.
8. Stir the jam and then ladle it into heated, sterilised jars. When the jars are filled, immediately seal the jars with sterilised lids.
9. Label your jars and store them in a cool dark place (like the pantry).
