Good Planet
Part of making a Good Difference is ensuring that we are caring for our planet. We have made several commitments to minimise the energy we consume and the emissions we generate. From transitioning to renewable energy to continuously improving the design and use of packaging. Learn more about ALDI's environmental initiatives and how we care for our Good Planet below.
Renewable Energy
In August 2020, ALDI became the first Australian supermarket to commit to 100% renewable electricity by the end of 2021. In June, 2021, we achieved this goal 6 months ahead of schedule. Learn how ALDI achieved the transition to clean power.
Reducing Plastic
At ALDI, we are seeking to minimise our impact on the environment. We are continuing efforts to reduce plastic packaging across our product range. Learn how we are removing problematic and unnecessary plastics from our products.
Sustainable Packaging
At ALDI, we are committed to continuously improving the design and use of packaging. Discover the improvements we are making to how our products are stored.
Zero Waste to Landfill
Australia wastes more than 7.3 million tonnes of food every year. ALDI has therefore committed to sending zero waste to landfill by 2025. There are several measures in place to ensure that we are working towards meeting our goal.
Recycling
Minimising all the waste we produce has been important to ALDI since we first opened our doors in 2001. From battery recycling to transparency in our labelling, find out how we are helping everyday Aussies recycle.
Battery Recycling
ALDI was the first supermarket with a battery take-back scheme. Learn about the B-cycle program and how ALDI can help you properly dispose of batteries. Find out more on our commitment to battery recycling.
Zero Waste at Home
At ALDI, we are committed to sending zero waste to landfill by 2025, but we need your help! Check out our tips for how you can work towards having zero waste at home.
Deforestation
We are proud to say that all of our own label toilet paper, tissue, kitchen paper towels and baby products are responsibly sourced. Learn about the measures that ALDI is taking to eliminate deforestation.
Responsibly Sourced Textiles
We are committed to increasing the sustainability and traceability of our textiles. Find out how ALDI are taking steps towards this goal.
Reducing Harmful Chemicals
At ALDI, we strive to protect our people and planet. Find out how we are reducing harmful chemicals in our textile and footwear production.
Responsible Farming
Responsible farming is important to us at ALDI. We can say with confidence that all palm oil in our ALDI-label products is certified sustainable. ALDI shelves are also stocked with Fairtrade Coffee and Cocoa. Learn more.
Responsibly Sourced Fish and Seafood
100% of our ALDI private label branded fish and seafood range is responsibly sourced. ALDI requires all private label fish to be independently verified as ecologically responsible. We are improving the transparency of our labelling and helping our customers learn more about where their fish comes from. We also work closely with non-government industry bodies such as the Marine Stewardship Council.
Animal Welfare
Animals are sentient beings and we believe they should be treated with respect, care and consideration. At ALDI, we are committed to the highest industry standards of animal welfare across our supply chain.
Sustainable Palm Oil
At ALDI, we know that illegal and poorly managed palm oil production contributes to climate change, which is why in our own label products we use 100% certified sustainable palm oil and palm kernal oil.
Responsibly Sourced Coffee, Tea and Cocoa
At ALDI, we stock our shelves with Fairtrade certified coffee, tea and cocoa. Find out how you can make your morning cuppa a sustainable one with responsibly sourced products.
Healthy Planet
By switching to 100% renewable electricity, reducing plastics from our supply chain and committing to zero waste, we are making a positive contribution to the health of our planet.
