From the zucchini farm to your table.

Zucchini migrate far and wide across Australia to our stores. We’ll always source the ones for your local store from as close as possible, to minimise transport time. Our low prices don’t mean they’re lower quality than other supermarkets. Our zucchini come from the same farms all over Australia, in places like Bowen in QLD, Shepparton in VIC, Riverland in SA and Gingin in WA.

Zesty zucchini facts and tips

How to pick zucchini in the supermarket.

The zucchini should be firm with smooth, green skin. Don’t fret if your zucchini is a little misshapen or wonky! Ugly veggies still taste just as delicious and ensure we’re not wasting precious fresh produce.

How can I preserve zucchini to be fresher for longer?

Store your whole zucchini in a slightly open paper or plastic bag in your fridge’s crisper. Fresh zucchinis should keep for 1-2 weeks.

What are the best ways to cook zucchini?

Zucchinis are more versatile than you might think! Try your zuccs roasted, grilled, steamed, boiled, fried or even raw.

The stealthy veggie.

Sneak some more veggies into your kids’ meals by hiding zucchini in chocolate cake or brownies. They won’t notice the zucchini, it will add more moisture to the baked goods without weighing down the batter.

Greener pasta.

Speaking of sneaky ways to use zucchini, when spiralised, zucchini makes for a great low calorie alternate to pasta or noodles.

Can you freeze zucchini?

Freezing zucchini is a great way to preserve your greens before they expire. With zucchini being a whopping 94% water, it’s important that you prep your zuccs before freezing them. First, slice the zucchini into your desired shape, then, throw them into boiling water for one minute before placing them into a bowl of ice water. Let them dry off on some parchment paper then bag them up in an air-tight ziplock bag ready for freezing.

Can you eat zucchini raw?

Great news for salad lovers, zucchini is completely safe to eat raw! Whilst a zucchini’s flavour is more muted when raw, this can work as a strength in certain cooking situations. For example, spiralised raw zucchini (known as zoodles) can work as a healthy gluten-free alternative to spaghetti or noodles. Additionally, raw zucchini can be grated or ribboned for adding an extra touch of nutrition and colour to fresh salads.

Is zucchini a fruit or vegetable?

Botanically speaking, zucchini is a fruit! Due to its seeds and the fact that grows from the flowering part of a plant, it is scientifically classified as a fruit. In culinary classification however, zucchinis are considered vegetables due to their more savoury nature.

With three decades of ALDI experience under their belt, Hydro Produce’s continuing passion and commitment to feeding Australians fresh and tasty zucchini remains at the core of what they do. In the summer months, their zucchini is grown in Victoria and in winter, it’s grown in the warmer Queensland climate. This allows them to produce healthy crops year round, so they can keep ALDI families happy for more decades to come.
