Prosciutto and Gouda French Toast Recipe
How to make Prosciutto and Gouda French Toast
Method
- Make the chilli flavoured apricot jam first, by mixing the apricot jam and crushed chilli paste together. Set aside.
- Make the French toast batter by whisking together the egg and milk in a medium-sized, shallow bowl.
- Melt the butter in a large frying pan.
- Dip each slice of bread into the batter until lightly coated and place in the frying pan, turning every minute until toasted on both sides.
- While the bread is toasting, preheat the oven to 200°C (180°C fan-forced).
- Remove the toasted bread and place the 4 slices on a baking tray lined with baking paper.
- Spread a bit of the jam on each of the slices.
- Top 2 of the bread slices with the equally divided cheese and prosciutto.
- Top each sandwich with the remaining slices of bread and toast in the oven until the cheese is melted – approximately 5 minutes.
- Serve warm.
Tip: These are very rich, decadent sandwiches so as the serving size suggests, cutting them in half will yield more servings.
Optional: Add more prosciutto, jam or cheese as desired.
