Prosciutto and Gouda French Toast Recipe

How to make Prosciutto and Gouda French Toast

Method

  1. Make the chilli flavoured apricot jam first, by mixing the apricot jam and crushed chilli paste together. Set aside.
  2. Make the French toast batter by whisking together the egg and milk in a medium-sized, shallow bowl.
  3. Melt the butter in a large frying pan.
  4. Dip each slice of bread into the batter until lightly coated and place in the frying pan, turning every minute until toasted on both sides.
  5. While the bread is toasting, preheat the oven to 200°C (180°C fan-forced).
  6. Remove the toasted bread and place the 4 slices on a baking tray lined with baking paper.
  7. Spread a bit of the jam on each of the slices.
  8. Top 2 of the bread slices with the equally divided cheese and prosciutto.
  9. Top each sandwich with the remaining slices of bread and toast in the oven until the cheese is melted – approximately 5 minutes.
  10.  Serve warm.

Tip: These are very rich, decadent sandwiches so as the serving size suggests, cutting them in half will yield more servings.

Optional: Add more prosciutto, jam or cheese as desired.
