How to Make Sausage Mummies
Method
- Preheat oven to 200°C (or 180°C for fan-forced ovens). Line a baking tray with baking paper.
- Cut the frankfurts in half and set aside. Use a small, sharp knife to cut the pastry into 5mm wide and 10mm wide strips. Wrap 2-3 pastry strips around each frankfurt to resemble bandages, leaving a little gap at one end for the face. Trim and discard excess pastry.
- Place on the lined tray. Repeat with remaining frankfurts and pastry. Beat egg in small dish and brush egg wash over the tops of the pastry, for each sausage mummy.
- Bake in the oven for 20-25 minutes or until pastry is golden and crisp. Place on a serving platter, serve with mustard and tomato sauce.
*Tip: Alternatively, use a small, round cutter to cut eyes out of some white cheese slices and stick a piece of black olive in the centre for the pupil.
