ALDI supports Aussie farmers

Australia is an amazing country. Some even call it the lucky country. We’ve got rich soils, a diverse climate and some of the world’s best produce on our doorstep. At ALDI, we get as much of our fresh produce from Australian farmers as possible. We’re proud to say that:

  • 100% of our fresh meat comes from down the road – regardless of the cut.
  • 97% of our fruit and veg comes from Australian farms.

What about that last 3%? Sometimes the desired produce isn’t available, or its quality and value don’t match our high standards. Unexpected weather, such as droughts, floods or bushfires play a part, too.

We're commited to supporting farmers and farm workers

At ALDI, there are a number of measures that we take to ensure we are supporting and caring for our local farmers. 

For example, the ALDI Stores Supplier Standards outline our minimum expectations of how workers within our suppliers should be treated. Our produce farmers can expect the following from ALDI:

  • Compliance with applicable laws
  • Ensuring compliance with relevant wages
  • No discrimination or harassment
  • Ensuring compliance with applicable work, health and safety laws
  • Workers right to freedom of association
  • We do not tolerate any form of forced labour

We also use third party audits such as SMETA (Sedex Members Ethical Trade Audit) and Fair Farms, to keep a close eye on the social standards of our final packing sites. Find out more about ALDI’s dedication to respecting human rights here.
