Responsibly Sourced Tea, Coffee and Cocoa

Coffee is how millions of Australians start the day. In fact, a third of coffee drinkers in Australia consume at least three cups a day.*

Not only is coffee an essential part of our lives, but so is chocolate. That’s why ALDI is committed to making Australians happy without compromising the life and wellbeing of farming families.

We do this by stocking our shelves with organic, Fairtrade and Rainforest Alliance certified coffee, tea and cocoa.

Find out below how responsibly sourced coffee and tea products help farmers and how you can help too.

We work closely with certification bodies

At ALDI, we ensure 100% of our cocoa, tea and 80% of our coffee is sourced as certified sustainable. We do this by working closely with third party certification schemes like the Rainforest Alliance, Fairtrade and organic certification schemes, which aim to improve the livelihoods and working conditions for farmers and their families, as well as to develop more environmentally sustainable and efficient farming practices.

We're proud to be Australia's largest retailer of own-brand Fairtrade tea, coffee and cocoa.

So, look for the mark on our responsibly-sourced products, which are supporting a better future of fair wages, sustainable farming and community empowerment.

What is Fairtrade?

Fairtrade is a non-profit organisation that changes the way trade works through improved prices, decent working conditions and a fairer deal for workers in developing countries. Supporting Fairtrade certified products is a great and easy way to improve the lives of farming families in these regions. Read below to find out what Fairtrade means.

Fair pricing and premiums

Farmers and workers receive fair prices for producing crops sustainably. Plus, they also receive premiums that provide them the opportunity to invest in businesses or community projects of their choice.

Fair labour conditions

Not only do farmers and workers enjoy freedom of association, Fairtrade offers safe working conditions and fair wages.

Environmental sustainability

Fairtrade products are produced without agrochemicals that are harmful to the environment and farmers are encouraged to reduce their use of pesticides. This helps preserve the ecosystem for future generations.

How ALDI supports Fairtrade

ALDI is a proud supporter of Fairtrade, raising the awareness on the importance of shopping responsibly. Find out more below to learn about ALDI’s commitment to protecting the rights of farmers and workers.

Collaboration with Fairtrade in West Africa

ALDI is proud to partner with Fairtrade on many aspects of the cocoa supply chain in Côte d’Ivoire, West Africa. This partnership empowers farmers and workers to deliver projects that provide the greatest impact to their communities. It’s a collaboration that was built on the ALDI commitment to 100% responsibly sourced, own-brand cocoa, which is certified sustainable by Fairtrade.

The objectives behind this partnership are to increase traceability, establish greater transparency and spearhead future projects with Fairtrade. To do so requires a look at ALDI’s cocoa supply chain to assess its impact on the local community and environment.
